What is a House Float and how did this tradition start?

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent closures that brought New Orleans' iconic Carnival revelry to a halt, the city tapped into its resilient spirit by transforming adversity into creativity. From the depths of adversity, a new tradition arose - turning homes into parade floats.

Embracing the city's resilient character, New Orleans residents refused to surrender their favorite holiday, and instead, adorned their houses with thematic Mardi Gras artwork, metamorphosing neighborhoods into vibrant displays of celebration. Custom-made by local artists, the House Floats breathed new life into a cherished tradition.

Amongst the many struggling businesses during the pandemic, the Stronghold Studios team faced an uncertain future. However, when the House Float phenomenon took hold, their fortunes started to turn around. We found ourselves perfectly positioned to ride the cresting wave of this evolving tradition.
